Since 2003 the students from the University of Calgary Canada and other Teaching Assistance lead by Professor Pascale Sicotte, (Head of Anthropology and Archeology Department) have every year visited Boabeng Fiema Monkey Sanctuary to embark on their Field school. This field school has since played a very important aspect of the students’ academic exercise; these are students graduating for their undergraduate, Masters and PHD under the Anthropology Department of the University.
The visit to the Sanctuary has lead to many Publications of the study of the Monkeys and the study of the Forest. This year visit was led by Josie Vayro, and this what she has to say:
We had another successful Primatology Field School at Boabeng-Fiema Monkey Sanctuary (2016). Our nine students worked very hard, collecting data on both Colobus and Mona monkeys. They also got to know many of the villagers and people they worked with. They learned some Twi, learned some customs, and were immersed in Ghanaian culture. We are really looking forward to next year’s school!
